1883 Nickel
Last night I came across an 1883 nickel in MS-60+. The fields are amazingly shiny, no hint of wear on the high parts, edges all sharp. The only flaw I found was a scratch on Liberty's cheek. I'm sure it would grade MS. It looks like it was minted last year.
Anyway, does anyone know what it would be worth slabbed? Is it worth it to have it graded? |
Re: 1883 Nickel
All depends on the scratch on the lady's cheek. How deep is it? How long? I've seen some tragic scratches on otherwise gorgeous coins.
For the long run, I'd have it graded. No idea on price. |
Re: 1883 Nickel
I had no idea, but just checked PCGS.com and it may be worth getting slabbed if it has the word "cents" on the bottom of the reverse. MS-60 is 175 and MS-63 is 240. You may get that much on e-Bay.

Re: 1883 Nickel
Or maybe he's talking about the other style ("Shield")1883 nickel?

Re: 1883 Nickel
It's a Liberty. The scratch is only noticeable on very close observation.

Get in slabbed. For posterity's sake if nothing else.

Re: 1883 Nickel
I would only slab if with cents variety. I have an MS-60+ no cents and only paid about $30-35 for it. Not worth slabbing.
